Sermon Notes: The Blessing - Part One                                               Genesis 1:22 NKJV

And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.”

Genesis 1:28 NKJV

Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

Genesis 5:2 NKJV

He created them male and female and blessed them and called them Mankind in the day they were created.

Genesis 9:1 NKJV

So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.

Four times within the first nine chapters of the Bible, God blesses man.

"Four" (cardinal number) was a sacred and complete number with the Hebrews, as well as with several other peoples. It occurs very frequently in the Old Testament and the New Testament. (1) It indicates completeness.

Bless, or Blessing – prosperity, a gift, present, source of blessing.

Prosper – to advance, make progress, succeed, be profitable, bring to success, to cause to prosper, show or experience prosperity

3 John 2

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

The blessing was “To be fruitful and multiply.

Fruit – produce of the ground, offspring, children, fruit of actions, reward

Fruitful – to bear fruit, to cause to bear fruit, to show and produce fruit, to grow, to increase

Multiply – increase, much, many, more, great, exceedingly, greater, abundance

The “Blessing” over and in one’s life by God, is a powerful force.

And the “Blessing” is something God wants to give to His children.

Abram and Melchizedek

Genesis 14:17-24 NKJV

18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High. 19 And he blessed him and said: “Blessed be Abram of God Most High,

Possessor of heaven and earth;

20 And blessed be God Most High,

Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.”

And he gave him a tithe of all.

21 Now the king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the [c]persons, and take the goods for yourself.”

22 But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have raised my hand to the Lord, God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth, 23 that I will take nothing, from a thread to a sandal strap, and that I will not take anything that is yours, lest you should say, ‘I have made Abram rich’— 24 except only what the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men who went with me: Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.”
